A native of Compton, California, Pastor Anthony Lamont Perkins, Sr. obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Sacramento Theological Seminary. His parents, Ms. La Vetta J. Coleman and the late Clyde Anthony Lamont Perkins, made sure he was nurtured in the word of God. Under their guidance, Pastor Perkins developed a relationship with a once and for all Sacrificial Savior, Jesus The Christ. In 1994 he accepted his call to ministry.
As the newly chosen Pastor of the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland, California, Rev. A. L. Perkins begins his new assignment with a steadfast hope and optimism for what God has in store for His people. Pastor Perkins formerly served as the Pastor/Teacher of the Tabernacle of Faith Missionary Baptist Church of San Francisco, California for 12 years. Under the anointing and direction of the Holy Spirit, he allows God to speak to him and through him as he gives direction to God’s people. Before accepting this assignment, Pastor Perkins served as the Youth Pastor at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Oakland, California and the Cosmopolitan Baptist Church Oakland, California. As a servant leader, Pastor Perkins takes advantage of every opportunity to be of assistance to the Body of Christ. He believes that every Pastor needs a Pastor. His pastor, mentor, and teacher is his uncle, the Rev. Dr. Henry L. Perkins of the First Baptist Church Pittsburg, California.
Insightful, eager, and engaging, Pastor Perkins proclaims the good news with vitality and conviction. In 2007, Pastor Perkins became the only person to hold both positions as the Young Adult President and Youth President (2000) for the California State Baptist Convention. He travels the world preaching and teaching the good news of Jesus Christ. In 2008 and 2011 Pastor Perkins received an invitation to participate in collaboration with other world-renowned pastor/preachers in Oxford, England. There he experienced the Proclaimers Place under the direction of Dr. Joel Gregory. Pastor Perkins received instruction, insight, and was recognized as a contributor to the 2008 Oxford Sermons book. The title of his featured sermon is “What’s So Amazing About God’s Grace” (2 Samuel 9:1-13).
Pastor Perkins is the founder of B.O.C. (Because of Calvary) Ministries. This vehicle allows for the spreading of the Gospel. B.O.C. Ministries’ primary purposes are to encourage, enlighten, empower, equip believers, and evangelize to the lost. This vehicle uses audio visual means in order to remind, refresh, and renew Christians while on their journey. Pastor Perkins believes that the word of God is still powerful and it is able to (H.O.P.E) Heal, Overcome, Produce, and Encourage the body of Christ and the unsaved.
Young and gifted, yet constantly seeking to share his knowledge with others, Pastor Perkins realizes that one must always have a teachable spirit. He is blessed to be the godson of Dr. Nathan Johnson, Pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Also Pastor Perkins is grateful to be called a son of Dr. Larry W. Ellis, Pastor of the Pilgrim Baptist Church of San Mateo, California. He is a little brother to Dr. Marvin E. Wiley Pastor of Rock of Ages Church Maywood, Illinois. His mentor, Dr. Joel Gregory, is a Professor of Preaching at Baylor University Waco, Texas.
